An exciting "hands on" opportunity to explore the style and techniques of medieval stained glass at the beautiful Glencairn Museum, during our 5 days at Glencairn, workshop participants will create glass works inspired by those in the museum's extraordinary collection - mainly 13th - 15th Century French Gothic panels. Students will also have the opportunity to photograph & sketch in the galleries, view rare books from the library and tour the Bryn Athyn Cathedral.
View first hand examples from the nation's largest private collection of medieval stained glass. Daily glass painting demos and instruction will include tracing, matting & silver staining in the Gothic Style. We will also explore techniques developed by the Bryn Athyn Craftsmen to develop their own glass and paint formulas for the production of the windows of the adjoining Bryn Athyn Cathedral. A glass blower in residence will do demos on historic glass blowing techniques and students will have the opportunity to paint on glass made particularly for the workshop. This class is a unique opportunity for stained glass artists, historians and those with an interest in the middle ages & the arts & crafts revival. Artists who have not worked in glass before are also encouraged to attend.
