| The burners need plenty of air in order to ignite. In the past I have lit the kiln with the lid closed but the "whoomp" of the igniting gas would often blow out the pilot flame. At the Derix Glasstudio in Germany they ignite the burners with the lid completely open. I have since switched to this technique. It may take as long as 30 seconds for the gas burners to ignite with a "whoomp" then you will see a blue flame licking across the lid of the kiln. NOTE: In order for the burners to ignite the gas must be entering in at a high pressure. I set my tank regulator to 28 PSI and the burner regulator to its highest setting. |
