The design of this panel is based
on the format of a baptism scene often found in historic religious stained glass.
Here, a wild iris takes the role of Christ, a chipmunk, that of John the Baptist,
and the descending dove is symbolized by a dragonfly. The dense foliage of the
background was inspired by the stained glass and textiles of the British Arts
and Crafts Movement designer, William Morris. Pigments are painted on both sides
of the glass.
